Epica has been working hard for their first show classic. We have asked Mark Jansen to tell us about it.
What was your reaction when you were invited to participate in the Miskolc International Opera Festival?
Mark: I found a fantastic idea and a great challenge for the band. How are you opportunities are not taken, therefore, when possible, you have to seize them.

Mark: The promoters of the exhibition has some preferences and other were selected on the amount of classical instruments involved.
How do you recommend the classic songs of Epica, fans of classical music ( For example, the elderly)?
Mark: We have our roots in classical music and personally I love Mozart and Rachmaninov. Classical music can also be very strong and intense. Some tracks are classic metal without drums. Combine classical music and metal. Our fans range from 5 to 90 years.
What kind of surprises await fans of Epica?
Mark: We expect a live show, where all songs are 100% live. Normally we have the chorus and orchestra prerecorded tape so we can not do that. It will be very special. It is also expected a good selection of classical pieces by Epica.
What do you expect the show?
Mark: I hope that all the work and preparations (an already started) would be rewarded with a good show.
Will Epica playing the songs differently to the way they usually do?
Mark: Possibly some extra backing vocals here and there.

How do scores for orchestra and choir?
Mark: Oliver Palotai (Kamelot), the boyfriend of Simone has experience writing scores, will be a heavy workload and has already started.
Do you know anything about Hungary or Miskolc?
Mark: About Miskolc to be honest nothing but Hungary, the capital is Budapest. Since the 80's are no free elections in Hungary, was once a communist state.

What memories do you have about Hungary?
Mark: We played once in Hungary with Sonata Artica, then when we were late and only saw it was dark inside the place where we play. Then I had an impression about Hungary unfortunately.

What is the question that you do not have, but would be happy to answer? Mark: What is your favorite football team, and is the VVV Venlo in the Netherlands. A great team and after 13 years in 2a. division in the league finally play more important again.
Do you have any message to Epica fans worldwide?
Mark: Yeah, thanks for all the support! We owe much to all the fans around the world!
